Running the day
How do I plan a day with several vehicles?
Open Calendar and zoom to a single day: that day view is the dispatch board in FleetDesk, dispatch software for tour operators, with one column per run, the groups riding each one stacked underneath, and every job that still has no vehicle piled in an amber lane on the left that never hides.
Month and week read as a calendar. The day is where the work gets arranged, so it becomes a board rather than a longer list of appointments. It is one screen rather than two tabs that can disagree with each other.
What a column is
A run: one vehicle, one driver, one departure time, on one date. Create one with a departure time, the tour it is running, the vehicle and the driver. A run can be marked as private hire, meaning one group only, and the database itself refuses a second one.
The unassigned lane
Confirmed and quoted work with no vehicle. It is amber, it is on the left, and it collapses to a thin strip reading "All assigned" only when it is genuinely empty. Nothing unassigned is ever hidden behind a filter.
Seats
Each column shows seats taken against seats available, counting quoted groups as well as confirmed ones, because a promised seat is a seat. Where a vehicle has no capacity recorded, nothing is enforced.
Getting back to it
The board has its own web address including the date, so yesterday, today and next Saturday are each a link you can bookmark or send to somebody.
